(IT-NEWSWIRE.COM, March 26, 2015 ) CHATHAM, Massachusetts -- Today the company Simplehold is taking a proactive role in preventing phone related vehicle accidents by announcing the launch of a new smartphone car mount.
According to a 2013 study released by the National Security Council (NSC), it is estimated that over 26 percent of all motor vehicle accidents involve the use of cell phones. At the same time, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) noted that nine people are killed every day and over 1,150 are injured in crashes that result from distracted drivers – the majority being cell phone-related.
And these numbers are going up year-over-year.
To combat this troubling rise, Simplehold decided it was time to take a stand in an different way.
"We have a goal for this cell phone mount," says President of Simplehold Luke Sawyer, "and that goal is a lower rate of phone-related vehicle accidents. That is our mission."
To reach this goal, Simplehold has chosen a low profile design for their smartphone car mount, one that does not mount on the inside of the windshield, but instead clips into a vehicle's air vent. This leaves the windshield clear and free from obstructions.
"Even a small item on the windshield can block the sight of another vehicle in that crucial instant," Mr. Sawyer said when talking about the product design; "It's also further to reach if you do need to interact with your phone while driving."
This product launch comes alongside the social awareness campaigns several large mobile carriers are engaged in that specifically target texting and driving.
Simplehold’s cellphone mount has convenience in mind as well as safety, however. It is a small and lightweight item, composed of an expandable rubberized cradle to grip the phone, and a rotating clip on the back. The clip design allows it to fit into the air vent of most vehicles, and the mount is small enough to be unobtrusive when not in use.
